What does it mean to be whole?

Even in the presence of defects, a body is still beautiful. As time beats down upon the external, finding wholeness in all that’s left is necessary in preventing damage to the internal; A butterfly’s delicate wings often cannot withstand the chaos of its surroundings but still it thrives, carrying on for as long as time allows. This piece utilizes the fragility and clearness of glass to symbolize the stage of a butterfly nearing its end. Having experienced the life stages of its body being destroyed, changed, rebirthed, and damaged again, it finds its individuality in its missing pieces, holding itself together in tenuous connections. I think we can all benefit by learning from the butterfly. Beautiful as it is, the only importance it places on its wings is the ability to fly. We are endlessly beautiful in our pursuits, and though all we may see are the holes in our wings, our ability to “fly” remains intact.
